The Rhythm Section Studio began in 2017 as an offshoot project dedicated to establishing an affordable music studio focused on electronic music production. The brainchild of Rhythm Section stalwart Mali Baden-Powel (Z Lovecraft/Mali-I), whose obsession with synthesizers and 90’s outboard was too big for his single bedsit in Brixton. He joined forces with engineer/producer Alex Batchelor’s collection of 80s hardware first setting up shop in Bermondsey (in the old music college). 2020 initiated a move to a larger, brighter space in the Greenwich Peninsula, living within the Domeview music studio complex run and designed by Turner Prize winning community workspace enablers Assemble.
In terms of studio design, the space has plentiful natural light with 2 double windows (on rear and left hand side), professional acoustic treatment, and calibrated monitoring. With a refined layout designed for electronic music, centered around a 32 channel Soundcraft 200 mixing desk, the studio is well suited to a variety of workflows. Whether you are a strictly In-The-Box producer or a fully-analogue fetishist we can cater to your needs. With a huge variety of synthesizers both vintage and modern, drum machines and outboard effects, one is sonically unlimited. Gear highlights ranging from the now timeless Roland 909, Roland Juno 106, Akai AX60 and Geithain RL906 monitors, we are London’s premier synth studio. In addition, we mix and master at affordable rates, with over 10+ years of industry experience for various record labels and artists. Previous clients include the likes of Stones Throw, FKJ, Kiefer, Session Victim, Harvey Sutherland, Jordan Rakei, DJ Boring, Chaos in the CBD, Laurence Guy, object blue etc.
The studio also functions as a centre for education, with our successful artist development mentorship, 1 on 1 demo feedback and specialist music production tuition all taking place via our Patreon scheme.
